The word ice cream carries a loaded meaning in our family. Everyone loves ice cream. And whether you are 4 years old or 68 years old, all look forward to when the mother of the home says, “who wants ice cream?”

And because we love ice cream so much…we sometimes have to downsize on the fat and cream content. It doesn’t go well for our clothing OR our stomach’s bloating and flatulence.

Although who doesn’t love the real creamy stuff, every once in a while the lighter, higher protein, HOMEMADE version is just as highly welcomed.

This Greek Yogurt Ice cream is pretty straightforward and easy. All you need is a blender and an ice cream maker. I have a few favorite ice cream makers. My favorites are:

#1: Cuinsinart Ice cream Maker

#2: Breville Ice Cream Maker

#3: Kitchenaid Stand Mixer Ice Cream Maker Attachment – this is an easy way to add an ice cream maker to your kitchen appliance that you may already have!

INGREDIENTS:

  • NON-FAT PLAIN GREEK YOGURT
    • Full fat yogurt will also work…we had non-fat in the fridge and we also wanted to cut down on the fat content which is why we chose NON-FAT.
    • I’m sure you could use a flavor…it would just change the flavor ha! And add unwanted sugar…so just use plain! I Promise you will like it.
  • HEAVY CREAM
    • This recipe is NOT dairy free. And thus, we added some cream which really makes this ice cream.
    • If you have never made ice cream WITHOUT dairy, or FAT, let me tell you by experience that it will be icey. IN order for the ice cream to be creamy, you must use some fat. Which is why I feel good about adding the cream.
  • MILK
    • I use 2% in place of whole milk and it works fine! you can use whole milk however if that is what you have!
  • SUGAR
    • coconut sugar is the sugar of choice if you want to stick to refined sugar free…however you can also use white sugar!
  • UNSWEETENED COCOA POWDER
  • SEA SALT
  • VANILLA EXTRACT

STEPS

Putting this together is pretty easy! I pour all of my ingredients into my blender BLENDTEC. This makes the ice cream smooth and fully incorporates all ingredients.

Also, I use this Tovolo ice cream container to hold my ice cream! It has a particular chamber on the outside that holds water. So, before you pour in the cold ice cream, place water in the outside container and put it in the freezer. The water freezes and acts as its very own ice freezer:)
